Skyak Adventures and Scotland360° Sea Kayaking Photography Course 23rd and 24th April 2015 In April of this year, Skyak Adventures and Scotland360° ran our first sea kayaking photography course.
Sea kayaking offers great ways of accessing and exploring some of the most scenic coastlines and photographic locations in Scotland and our course offers a unique blend of practical instruction in photography both on and off the water, as well as tailored sea kayak coaching from Gordon Brown, the UK's foremost sea kayak coach.
No technical photography skills are required; this is a course for participants to learn to produce great results from their cameras whilst sea kayaking and to get the best out of their own photography.
Running the course from the Skyak Adventures base at Breakish on the Isle of Skye, we spent the first day on land covering lighting, composition, how to zoom effectively and promoting an understanding of how to get the best technical outputs from digital cameras. Lots of top tips and handy hints, with time to review the day's output prepared us for day two and a day on the water in our kayaks.
With an emphasis on fun and with time to explore some of the ideas from the day before, day two was based down at Ord on the Sleat Peninsula. With a wonderful backdrop and the natural "props" around us, we developed the themes from the previous day. Launching at Ord and paddling over to the scenic "coral island", we took took time to compose and to put the tuition into practice.
It's great to have an output from a weekend such as this and the photographs below are the "tutor's selection" which represents the day, the range of subjects we covered and of course the output from the photographers.
